World Cancer Day 2013


World Cancer Day is observed on 4th of February every year all over the world. This day is observed to raise awareness about cancer, cancer prevention, detection and its treatment. This day is coordinated by (UICC) International Union Against Cancer globally. Each year WHO supports UICC to promote ways to prevent the disease and ease global burden of this disease. According to World Health Organization(WHO) it is the leading cause of death around the world. So, it is very important to be aware about the disease, its’s types, prevention and treatment.

What is Cancer?
It is an uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can caused by mutation or abnormal activation of cellular genes that control cell growth and cell mitosis. It can occur at any age and in any part of the body.

Common Risk Factors:
Different cancer have different risk factors. Some of them are as follows:
  • Heredity
  • Chemical substances
  • Excessive intake of meat
  • High body mass index
  • Obesity
  • Alcohol use
  • Tobacco use
  • Age
Types:
There are more than 100 types affecting every part of the body. Some of common types includes breast, bladder, lung, colon prostrate,thyroid cancer, leukemia and melanoma.
There are various studies, researches going on cancer, its causes, treatment and prevention. This disease is not curable. One needs to go for medication, treatments like chemotherapy. So Prevention against this disease might help in coming years.
